Field of dentistry specialized in the structures that surround and support the teeth, like gums, alveolar bone, cementum and the periodontal ligament.

Periodontal diseases range from simple gum inflammation (gingivitis) to serious disease that results in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In the worst cases, teeth are lost.

It is possible to prevent and detect gum diseases with regular professional dental cleanings to remove plaque or tartar that are difficult to reach and remove during regular brushing and flossing at home.

See below the available Periodontics treatments in Odontoklinik:

2.1 Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planning): is needed in order to remove bacteria, calculus (tartar), and debris that has collected under the gum line.

The presence of calculus under the gumline creates a safe haven for bacteria to collect, and cannot be removed by brushing, flossing or with a regular cleaning. The presence of this bacteria causes an immune response from the body. This immune response results in inflammation, to fight the bacterial infection.  If left untreated, the infection and inflammation will continue and progress further under the gum line, resulting in loose teeth and bone loss, and ultimately, the loss of one or more teeth.

2.2 Surgical Treatments

žGingivectomy, as Cosmetic Surgery, is applied to remove the overgrown gum tissue and improve the appearance of the gums. However, it can be also a surgical removal of gum tissue when the gums have pulled away from the teeth creating deep pockets which make it hard to clean away plaque and calculus.  This treatment is usually done before gum disease has damaged the bone supporting the teeth.

žGingivoplasty is the surgical reshaping of gum tissue around the teeth to make them look more natural. Gingivoplasty also can be done along with a gum graft. This type of surgery adds tissue to the gum line.
